What is Stewardship?

Stewardship is the word that we use to begin to discuss a topic that makes many people uneasy: money. Yet finance, too, has a place in the practice of our faith.

Each year, as we are beginning to enter into the season of Lent, beginning the process of journeying to bright and holy Pascha, we read the same lesson from Matthew 25. There, Christ reminds us that what we have given or done for those in need, we have done this same unto the Lord. Charity and generosity are a part of who should be, and a part of this charity and generosity is our commitment to the sustenance of this Church.

Ours has been from the start a local community—really and truly a work of the people. Our fathers and mothers, our grandparents and godparents, our ancestors whether by spirit or blood, our people have kept this place alive through their prayer and their work. We do the same today, and welcome you to join us in this, that God’s house and our home may be here to serve many, many more generations.

If you haven’t got any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.   --Bob Hope
